Kasumigaseki CampusInnovative Solutions Arise at Tokyo's Tornado2023 Hackathon

In a remarkable showcase of talent and ingenuity, the final presentation of "Tornado2023," a dynamic hackathon organized by the Tornado Executive Committee, took place on Saturday at the Tokyo College of Information Design in Edogawa-ku, Tokyo. Among the standout participants was Hibiki Tamaki, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Economics, representing a team that clinched both the coveted Excellence Award and the prestigious TOHO Award, sponsored by a prominent company. Tornado, an immersive online hackathon, tasked teams with the mission of creating a product to address real-world challenges. Comprising a product owner, a designer, and three engineers, each team collaborated to bring their innovative visions to life. Notably, the Ukinaga Research Institute from our university played a pivotal role in orchestrating this dynamic event.

Mr. Tamashiro's team tackled the imperative theme of post-coronavirus rejuvenation, focusing on "Creating products that support future lifestyles." The fruit of their labor was unveiled as "Seishun Puzzle," a unique product that enables users to piece together and share cherished memories with friends through a delightful puzzle format. The final presentation stage assessed projects on four critical fronts: planning acumen, design finesse, engineering prowess, and presentation eloquence — a rigorous evaluation that ultimately led to their well-deserved accolades.Following the presentations, participants engaged in spirited discussions with industry mentors and discerning judges, all of whom played a pivotal role in supporting and guiding the hackathon. These students, who initially convened at a kick-off event in August, dedicated themselves to brainstorming, product development, and the rigorous evaluation process facilitated by collaborating companies. This spirited challenge spanned nearly a month, showcasing the remarkable tenacity and innovation that thrives within our university community. As the curtains close on Tornado2023, our university remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing and championing diverse student-driven endeavors, propelling a new generation of innovators towards brighter horizons.?
