Fukuoka CampusAssociate Professor Takamitsu Kato from Colorado State University was invited to give a biology experiment and a special lecture.

Colorado State University Associate Professor Takamitsu Kato visited Teikyo University Fukuoka Campus from Monday, June 24 to Wednesday, June 26, 2024. This is the third consecutive year that Kato has visited the university since 2022, and during his visit, in addition to conducting biology experiments and giving two special lectures, he also held individual consultations with students and faculty regarding research and studying abroad.

A total of 52 students and faculty participated in the biology experiments, which were held during the first and second periods on Monday, June 24th and Wednesday, June 26th, and included DNA extraction experiments using onions, bananas, and oral mucosa. Students who participated commented, "I was surprised that the DNA exposed to radiation had a completely different shape from normal DNA. I want to try more experiments," making it a very satisfying experiment.
A total of 168 students, faculty and staff participated in the special lectures, which were held during the fourth period on Monday, June 24th and the fifth period on Tuesday, June 25th. The lectures were an easy-to-understand introduction to Kato's research and the differences between the living environments in Japan and America, using examples to illustrate the topic. After the lectures, many students asked questions, leading to lively discussions. In addition, in a survey of participants, 99% answered that they were "satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied," and many expressed expectations and requests for the expansion of international exchange and research in the future.
Fukuoka Campus will continue to carry out activities aimed at further developing international exchange.
