A proposal for tourism urban development in Hachioji City by a student from Hachioji CampusDepartment of Tourism Management was selected for the University Consortium Hachioji Student Planning Project Subsidy.

On Friday, July 12, 2024, a proposal for tourism urban development measures for Hachioji City, which was planned in a special lecture on tourism management offered by Associate Professor Konno Hisako of Department of Tourism Management Faculty of Economics, Teikyo University, was selected as a recipient of the University Consortium Hachioji Student Planning Project Subsidy. Students participated in the selection ceremony held at the Gakuentoshi Center (Hachioji City, Tokyo). At the selection ceremony, each university presented their plan, and there was an exchange of opinions and interaction with officials of the Hachioji Civic Activities Council.

In 2020, Hachioji City was recognized as the only Japanese Heritage site in Tokyo and is promoting urban development that makes use of its "Mulberry City." In this lecture, as a tourism urban development proposal to the Hachioji city government, we are cultivating interest in "Mulberry City" and "textiles" among the younger generation, including parents and children, and promoting efforts toward sustainable urban development. In addition, in 2023, we made a proposal at the University Consortium Hachioji Student Presentation, which won the Grand Prize in the Tourism Urban Development category.

To further expand on last year's proposal, this year we plan to hold a summer vacation parent-child experience in August called "Let's play with textiles and sugoroku in Hachioji, the city of mulberry trees!" In cooperation with the Hachioji Textile Industry Association and local shared kitchens, we will be promoting the interest of the younger generation through a program that offers an "authentic hand weaving experience" taught by a traditional craftsman, as well as a student-planned "Quiz Sugoroku in Mulberry Trees" and "Mulberry Snacks."
In preparation for this event, in June, we started surveys and interviews at the Hachioji City Local History Museum and museums, making prototypes of snacks using mulberry in a shared kitchen, and posting on Instagram. In July, with the cooperation of Hachioji City Hall (Japan Heritage Promotion Section, etc.), posters were placed in 50 facilities in the city and the event was published in Hachioji Public Relations, and with the support of the Hachioji City Board of Education, the event was posted on the Japan Heritage Portal Site (Agency for Cultural Affairs) and the Hachioji City Japan Heritage Mulberry City Story Portal Site.
In this way, through the tourism town development proposals, collaboration with many people from industry, government and private sectors related to Hachioji, the Mulberry City, a Japan Heritage site, has expanded, providing valuable experiential learning opportunities.
