A celebration was held for theHachioji Campus baseball team's victory in the 2024 Metropolitan University Baseball Spring League

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, a celebration was held in Tokyo for the Teikyo University baseball team's victory in the 2024 Metropolitan University Baseball Spring League. It was a homely gathering of those who closely support the baseball team and those associated with the university. The event was hosted by manager Yui Miyazaki (4th year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) and Ryoka Takenouchi (3rd year, Faculty of Economics), who are usually in charge of announcements at the stadium.

Our university's baseball team finished last in the 2022 Spring Division 1 League, lost in the promotion/relegation match, and was demoted to the 2nd Division for the first time in 39 seasons. After that, we won the 2023 Fall Division 2 League and won the promotion/relegation match to be promoted to the 1st Division. In the 2024 Spring Division 1 League, we won 10 games and took points from all universities, achieving the feat of winning immediately after promotion, the first time in the history of the league. In the 73rd All-Japan University Baseball Championship held in June, we made it to the top 8 for the first time in 53 years.

In congratulating the team, Chairman and President of our university, Yoshihito Okinaga, praised the team's achievements in overcoming difficult circumstances to achieve victory, saying, "I hope that you will pass on the experience you have gained to your juniors and leave it as an asset to the baseball team."
Afterwards, Sports Bureau Director Masayuki Iwade proposed a toast, and during the chat time, a video made by Manager Miyazaki and Deputy Director Keigo Ikeda (3rd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) was screened. The video showed the team's relegation to the second division, their victory in the promotion/relegation match, their first division league victory, and the All-Japan University Baseball Championship. All the students were smiling, looking at each other and laughing, and sometimes looking serious as they watched the video.

In his speech, Ryoichi Karasawa, head baseball team coach, expressed his gratitude to the entire baseball team, the people at the Sports Medical Science Center and the dorms, Cheerleading Club, the brass band, and everyone else who supported the team, saying that the players had received energy from them. He then sent a message to the students of the baseball team, saying, "Let's all face the same direction, have the same feelings, and see a different view together again. If you make a good team, the results will follow, so let's all come together and work hard again to meet everyone's expectations."

Captain Keiji Imazaki (4th year Faculty of Medical Technology) looked back on the spring league, expressed his gratitude to the seniors in the year above, including last year's captain Daima Goto, and spoke about his enthusiasm for the fall league. In addition, students who won individual awards in the spring league were introduced, and the audience once again gave them a round of applause.

Closing remarks were given by Takahiko Amani, head of the baseball club and dean of Faculty of Law. In addition, when seeing off the participants, the students handed them a victory commemorative clear file designed by an alumni of the baseball club and a special edition of Teikyo Sports created for the celebration by Takeshi Otani (3rd year, Faculty of Economics), editor-in-chief of the Teikyo Sports Newspaper, as a thank-you gift from the baseball club students.

The fall league, which will be the fourth-year students' final season, will begin on Saturday, September 7th.
We look forward to seeing even more success from the baseball team in the future.
