On Sunday, November 2, 2025, international students from Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus'Teikyo-Asia Exchange Program (TAEP) participated in a practice session for the "Foreign Language Guide Volunteer Training Project" hosted by Hachioji City. This training project involves junior and senior high school students from Hachioji City speaking to foreign tourists in English in front of Takaosanguchi Station and guiding them to the attractions of Mount Takao and the local area. This was held as a pre-practice session for the project. International students from our university participated as foreign tourists, asking questions and reacting in English to the English guides from the junior and senior high school students, imagining that they would be real tourists.
On the day, nine international students from Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, and Indonesia, along with around 20 middle and high school students from the city, participated, splitting into groups and practicing in a rotation format, resulting in practical interaction. The middle and high school students gave detailed guided tours based on information they had researched about Mount Takao and Hachioji City in advance, and the international students asked many questions, resulting in lively exchanges. At the end of the practice, the international students gave feedback to each of the middle and high school students, providing a valuable experience for the students as they prepare for the real thing. One international student also commented, "I've climbed Mount Takao before, but this activity allowed me to discover new charms."
