On Monday, July 28, 2025, a master's thesis presentation session was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus by second-year Division of Japanese Cultures students majoring in Japanese Culture in the Graduate Graduate School of Liberal Arts. Graduate School from the same department, as well as students and faculty from Department of Japanese Cultures in Faculty of Liberal Arts also participated as audience members.
This presentation was positioned as an important milestone in the intermediate stages of writing the master's thesis, and was a valuable opportunity for students to present their research themes and methodologies, as well as their achievements to date and future challenges.
Four students took to the stage for presentations, each with 15 minutes, plus a 35-minute Q&A session. Each presenter presented a theme based on the diverse areas of expertise unique to Division of Japanese Cultures, such as performing arts, folklore, modern society, cultural exchange, and language and culture, and presented research that delved into the depths of Japanese culture from their own perspectives.
During the Q&A session, participants, including faculty members in the department, first-year master's students, and undergraduate students, actively asked questions, and discussions were held on the direction of the research, how to handle materials, theoretical frameworks, etc. For the presenters, it was a valuable opportunity to objectively review their own research and gain new perspectives and challenges for future writing, while for the first-year master's students and undergraduate students, it was a good opportunity to learn about research methods, presentation techniques, and academic debate attitudes through the presentations of their seniors.
